Citrix EdgeSight

Detailed Features:

  • Citrix EdgeSight Agents EdgeSight agents are specifically designed with the desktop environment in mind and automatically monitor every application in use, without any configuration or instrumentation requirements. These unobtrusive agents operate continuously on the end-user’s systems collecting performance data across all applications and processes. Performance data is stored locally and compiled and uploaded at set intervals, eliminating unnecessary network chatter and enabling data transmissions only during non-peak periods. Local data storage also enables performance management for intermittently connected devices, such as laptops.
  • Citrix EdgeSight Server The EdgeSight Server collects data from the distributed agents and aggregates and analyzes the data to highlight performance trends and potential issues. This intelligent aggregation and analysis provides enterprise or group-level views while also delivering detailed performance data for specific problem identification and resolution. The server delivers a rich native reporting environment with data sorting, grouping, filtering and display that include identification of top issues and trend analyses to identify potential problems. Granular data from events can be easily routed to internal resources or integrated with a 3rd party management console or service desk application.
  • Citrix EdgeSight Console The EdgeSight Console presents application and system performance data in an easy-to-use, role-based user interface. The console also provides a set of pre-defined reports and allows the user to easily configure new reports based on specific needs. Through the console, IT Operations staff can monitor performance trends and get granular data on specific events by drilling into the performance data on an individual system or across a set of devices.
  • Performance Management When you have to rely on end-users to learn about application performance issues, you’re in a reactive mode that often requires guesswork to get to a resolution. This passive, “help desk model” can be inefficient, unproductive, and, in many cases, ineffective. What you need are true performance management methodologies that provide end-to-end visibility. Then you can effectively – and proactively – manage application performance and availability from the end-user perspective.

By viewing and quantifying the performance and availability of applications and IT services from the end-user perspective, you enhance service, increase availability, and improve productivity throughout the enterprise. EdgeSight provides the visibility and run-time data required to proactively manage the full range of applications on end-user systems – even with today’s heterogeneous IT environments and distributed end-users.
  • Problem Management When an application fails at an end-user’s desktop – or at many desktops throughout the enterprise – you need to be able to react quickly, intelligently, and effectively. You need to know where the problem is occurring, why it’s occurring, how long it’s been occurring, how to fix it, and how to ensure that it doesn’t occur again. Unfortunately, incident management at many large organizations tends to begin with finger-pointing between application and network staff. With end-to-end visibility, you don’t need to point fingers, because the data helps you pinpoint the problem.

This data – which EdgeSight collects in real time and run time – helps you to categorize the scope of the incident (i.e., is it an isolated or enterprise-wide event?), conceptualize the problem (i.e., what was running on the device at the time of the incident?), and identify the root cause (i.e., what recent hardware or software changes may have contributed to the crash?).
  • Distributed Environment Management Centralizing IT management in enterprise environments with remote sites and distributed, often-disconnected users is a huge challenge. It’s difficult to gain visibility into how applications are performing on end-user devices when they’re in different geographies, and even harder to do it efficiently. However, it’s essential in order to support road warriors and remote workers. After all, an insurance rep unable to process a claim because the application is down may lose that customer, while collaborative activities can fall apart if end-users in different facilities aren’t experiencing the same performance and availability.

EdgeSight solves this problem through the use of unobtrusive agents that capture and deliver run-time data to administrators regardless of where the end-user device is locate. This makes it more efficient and cost-effective to ensure optimal performance of all end-user applications running on distributed assets.
  • Application Management Enterprises typically have a variety of application types – including homegrown and off-the-shelf solutions – as well as application delivery modes, such as Web-based, client/server, and desktop. Once you get to an end-user’s desktop, that mix is likely to be even more eclectic and personalized. EdgeSight provides management capabilities that are both broad – enabling you to view performance metrics on all applications across the enterprise – and deep, allowing you to see how specific applications are performing and being utilized, both in real-time and historically.

This not only helps you to provide enhanced levels of service, but also delivers value to the application development community by enabling developers to see how their solutions are working in an actual production environment. Continuous, run-time monitoring across all managed endpoints provides critical, contextual data and insight into how the applications are performing under a range of conditions. This objective and reliable feedback helps developers to identify where improvements can be made, accelerating the pace of innovation within the organization.
